For over three decades, Merete has been an integral part of Hørning, shaping the company’s journey through her expertise, passion, and unwavering commitment. Since joining as an export trainee in 1986, she has played a key role in both domestic and international sales, witnessing the company’s evolution firsthand.

A Journey Rooted in Craftsmanship

Merete’s journey began in August 1986, when she joined Hørning as part of her business studies at Århus Købmandsskole. What was initially intended as a stepping stone soon became a lifelong passion. “At first, I thought: ‘These people talk about nothing but wood! I’ll finish my training and move on.’ But I was quickly captivated by the magic of wood – and here I am, almost 39 years later.”

Memorable Projects and Defining Moments

Over the years, Merete has been involved in some of Hørning’s most prestigious projects. From the grand halls of the National Library in Madrid to the elegant interiors of Dehns Palæ and the historic Gl. Estrup, she has helped deliver extraordinary flooring solutions worldwide. One of her earliest major export projects, the National Library in Madrid, remains a milestone in her career.

Throughout her tenure, she has witnessed significant industry changes, including the shift from traditional nailing and screwing methods to full-surface adhesion, as well as the growing preference for oil finishes over lacquering. Yet, one constant has remained: the company’s unwavering dedication to quality and craftsmanship.

One of Merete’s proudest moments was seeing Hørning rise from the ashes after a devastating factory fire in 1995. The company’s resilience and growth since then have been a testament to the strength of its people and values.
